Fleas are a nationwide problem, especially for households with animals. They operate on a seasonal basis, thriving in warm and humid environments. In the Southeastern United States, we have a longer flea season than most. That means vigilance is necessary from as early as March to as late as November.
At Lookout Pest Control we can eradicate flea infestations of every size and scope. Maybe your furry friend brought them inside, or maybe you accidentally transported them yourself. No matter the case, we have the skills and experience to get rid of them for good.
What do fleas look like? At first glance they are small and flat, reddish-brown in color with a hard exterior shell. They have four small legs and two massive ones that allow them to jump from place to place.
If you have pets, you might see them crawling through their fur. Or you might find their feces, otherwise known as flea dust, which look like grains of blackish-red pepper. Fleas are most likely to feed on the head, neck, back or belly of pets, so those are the first places you should check if your pet has been itching.
Fleas don’t use humans as hosts, but they still may leave bites. If you’ve experienced itchy raised red bumps, you may want to wear white socks and walk along your carpet – and call a professional flea exterminator.

While it’s true that these pests can’t survive freezing temperatures, they seek out warmer locations when the temperature drops. And if they find a cozy place to live, they can survive until it warms up again next year.
Fleas are hard to predict, but it’s possible to prevent an infestation with the right techniques. Keep your bedding clean, and keep your pet’s bedding clean too. Vacuuming your carpets and rugs frequently will also help keep any fleas from reproducing – just make sure you empty your vacuum bag outside the home.
If you already have fleas, it can be incredibly difficult to get rid of them on your own. There are DIY flea killers, but more often than not they only affect a few pests without stopping the infestation. You need a professional flea exterminator to completely treat the area – and that’s where Lookout Pest Control comes in.
